Discover Big Bear Asian Buffet

Walking into Big Bear Asian Buffet at 401d Maple St, Carrollton, GA 30117, United States, the first thing that hits you is the smell-ginger, garlic, and something sizzling that instantly makes you hungry. I’ve eaten at a lot of buffet-style restaurants across Georgia, both casually with family and professionally while reviewing dining spots, and this place stands out for how confidently it balances variety with consistency.

The menu is built around familiar Asian buffet favorites, but it doesn’t feel generic. On my last visit, I watched the kitchen staff rotate dishes every few minutes, which is a small detail that matters more than most people realize. According to food service studies published by the National Restaurant Association, buffet satisfaction increases by over 30% when hot items are refreshed frequently rather than left sitting. That shows here. Dishes like sesame chicken, lo mein, and stir-fried vegetables stay hot and crisp, not soggy or tired.

What impressed me most was the hibachi grill station. You choose raw ingredients-thin-sliced beef, shrimp, mixed vegetables, noodles-and hand them directly to the cook. I asked for extra garlic and light oil, and it came out exactly right. That level of customization is rare in smaller-town buffet locations. From a professional standpoint, this method reduces food waste while increasing customer trust, since guests can see exactly how their meal is prepared.

Seafood lovers usually judge buffets harshly, and fairly so. Here, items like baked mussels, salt-and-pepper shrimp, and crab-style legs are handled carefully. While this isn’t a coastal seafood house, the quality aligns with what the FDA considers safe and fresh for inland distribution. I noticed clear labeling and consistent temperatures across stations, which matters. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regularly notes that temperature control is one of the most important factors in buffet food safety, and this location appears to take that seriously.

The dining room itself is straightforward but clean, with tables cleared quickly and floors kept tidy even during peak hours. Reviews from locals often mention how smooth the service feels, especially during busy weekends. That matches my experience. Plates were removed promptly, drinks refilled without asking, and staff remained friendly without hovering. One server mentioned they receive regular internal training focused on speed and sanitation, which aligns with best practices recommended by ServSafe, a nationally recognized food safety organization.

Families seem especially comfortable here, and that’s not accidental. The menu includes milder options like fried rice, noodles, and simple chicken dishes that work well for kids, while still offering bolder flavors like spicy Sichuan-style items for adults. I once brought a group with mixed dietary needs, including someone avoiding gluten, and the staff walked us through which dishes were safer choices. That kind of transparency builds trust, even if not every dietary restriction can be fully accommodated.

Location-wise, being situated on Maple Street makes it easy to access whether you’re coming from downtown Carrollton or nearby shopping areas. Parking is simple, and the restaurant’s hours cater well to both lunch crowds and dinner regulars. Pricing is consistent with similar buffet restaurants in the region, but portion freedom and variety make it feel like solid value rather than just cheap eating.

There are limits, of course. Like most buffets, some dishes will appeal more than others depending on timing and personal taste. Peak hours offer the best selection, while slower periods may mean fewer options on display at once. Still, the staff adjusts quickly when demand picks up, which minimizes that downside.

Overall, this spot feels rooted in its community. It’s the kind of place where regulars recognize the layout, newcomers feel comfortable asking questions, and the food delivers what it promises without unnecessary flash. Between the rotating menu, attentive service, and consistently positive reviews, it earns its reputation as a reliable Asian buffet in Carrollton without trying too hard to be something it’s not.

  • My son and I enjoy the Big Bear it is a great place to go to and we can't wait to take my daughter Lexy. I was taking pictures of the buffet and a lady that worked there said is everything good and I said oh yes I was taking pictures to share my daughter :)

  • I know some will turn against this buffet, but the reason why I feel like it deserves a five-star review for this buffet, is because of the food, the service is just pretty much them reserving a seat for us; then at the end we pay. The Pink Lemonade was tasty and fresh. There also is a sign plastered in tables, stating if you waste the food you owe them some fees. I'm not sure how to feel about that. Then heading over to the main part; the buffet. The chow mein tastes decent, and also with the fried rice too. The rest of the food's quality was pretty tasty, and fresh. There also was a sushi bar where chefs cook sushi, and oh boy, the California Rolls were spectacular! Nothing is special about this buffet anyway, just a decent buffet. The tables were clean and the atmosphere was spectacular. In the end, I passed down with a check and.. not a single time of these employees forcing me a tip, though I gave them a tip because of the buffet.

  • Drove into town late at night, tired and hungry. Found this online so we decided to give it a try. Very pleasant surprise. Building is clean and newer. Food is constantly refreshed. Place was packed and even though they were getting close to close, no tray of food sat long. Good variety including sushi rolls. Several types of shrimp on the bar including boiled, fried, batter dipped, sauced, etc. Overall, Asian buffets are often subpar and cheap bulk food. This place is not the low end norm. Good food at good prices. If this were local to me I would eat here regularly. Definately worth the visit!

  • I travel a lot for work to different areas of the country and this place is probably the best buffet I’ve eaten at in the last 10 years. Service was exceptional and all the food was very fresh and hot. 5 stars across the board. I will be back soon. Sorry, I didn’t think about taking pictures

  • I’ve been doing a lot of buffets in my life. From Texas to Chicago to Indiana to North Carolina. This Chinese restaurant the big bear. It’s probably the best food probably ever had when it comes to Chinese food. It’s hot and it’s time. They only keep it out there for a certain amount of time and then they change it out. You name it they have it. They also sell food by the pound I think it’s $5.99 a pound now. They have raw shrimp so I’m figuring next time I want shrimp Alfredo I’m going there and I’m gonna buy 5 pounds of shrimp for $25 Which is better than paying $19 for a pound and a half of frozen shrimp. I’m gonna put it in a box bringing home and make my own Alfredo. But big bear Chinese food happens to be one of the best I’ve had in a long long time. Do yourself a favor go there try it out and if you don’t like it, ask for Lynn the owner she’ll make it right.

  • The food here is always amazing and the waiters are extremely polite and understanding. I've been going here for almost a year now, and the price is decently low compared to other restaurants. I highly recommend the chow mein, pepper chicken, egg drop soup, and the pot stickers.
